Hassouna MANSOURI (حسونة المنصوري - born in 1970) is a Docent, Columnist, Film critic, journalist, semiologist, film historian, essayist and film director.
He studied French literature and cinema at the University of Tunis. In the early 90's, he started to write about cinema in Tunisian daily newspapers and magazines. He also organised film retrospectives and activities on film criticism. In 1995 he created Le Cercle des Amis de Fassbinder. In 2001 he went on to establish Le Cinéphile, the official publication of the Tunisian section of film critics. Hassouna Mansouri was president of this association from 2000 to 2006. In the same period, from 2003-2007, he was elected vice-president of Fipresci (Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique), and continues to work for Fipresci as director of department in charge of African Affairs. In 2004, at the occasion of the International Film Festival of Carthage, he was a founding member of the African Federation of Film Critics. He was the first general secretary of this organisation and he is editor of its Magazine ("Africiné Magazine") & website: www.africine.org
He written and directed "Shame" (short documentary, 2015) World Premiered at 22nd MedFilm Festival (Roma, Italy, 04-12/11/2016).
Right now, Hassouna Mansouri writes for many newspapers, all over the Maghreb: Le Renouveau (Tunisia), Libération (Morocco) and Liberté (Algeria). He also contributes to film magazines: Septième Art (Tunisia) and Filmkrant (Netherlands). He published "De l'identité ou pour une certaine tendance du cinéma africain" (Sahar Editions, Tunis, 2000, essay) and "L'Image confisquée: le cinéma du Sud, ce cinéma (de) subalterne" (Depuis le Sud, Amsterdam, 2010, essay, 129 pages, ISBN : 978-90-9025819-5). Hassouna collaborated on many other collective publications. He is pursuing a PHD at Cergy University (Cergy-Pontoise, France), after research on "The interpretation according to Umberto Eco" in the University of Amsterdam.
