The Malawi Writers Union (MAWU) is a national body of Creative Writers in Malawi. It was formed in September 1995 following a democratic dispensation that was attained in Malawi in 1994. Current membership is 800. There are five desks in the Union. There is the Budding Writers Desk with 250 members; the Women Writers Desk has 150; the Non Fiction Desk has 85 writers and the Religious writer's desk with 60 writers. Established Writers are about 120, those who have published a book or more. The Union has also a network of school affiliate writers clubs numbering about 80 from secondary schools and universities. Malawi Writers Union started in the 2001.
The union was formed to promote writers in Malawi.
Their current president is Mr. Tsambalikangwa Mvona.

There headquater is in Blantyre bat the Arts house.
They ghave all the data base for most of the writers in Malawi.
They also provide workshops and training for up coming writers.
The group is growing bigger than before with more members joining the union.
They got funding from Cultural Fund scheme which is funded by Norwegian Embassy
