Ethiopia in the 1960s. The civil war and the political struggle told through the story of Tamuru, a young opponent of the regime who has been imprisoned and tortured by the soldiers of the Dergue, the provisional military regime that took power after the fall of the Negus. Tamuru seeks refuge in a village far from the city together with his son. His life is destroyed by guilt feelings over the death of his wife. In the village he teaches and finds consolation in friendship with a young woman doctor, but even in this isolated spot he will not be able to elude the control of the regime.
