Having already made the film "Doudou N'Diaye Rose - Tambour Major" (also available through Amaya Distribution), B‚atrice Soul‚ joined the producer and composer Eric Serra in Senegal, where he had gone to make a sound recording of Doudou's extraordinary music.But it is more than a beautifully balanced visual and musical record of performance, for it stunningly intercuts images from the island of Gor‚e where filming took place. These restful, almost static shots provide a visual counterpoint to the driving dynamic music and musicians. The Silver Rose, Montreux 1993 and Best Performing Arts Special, Banff 1993.
