Oyeyemi was born in Nigeria in 1984 and moved to London when she was four. Her first novel, The Icarus Girl, is about a young girl and her imaginary friend. Her second novel, The Opposite House, was a nominee for the 2008 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. Her third novel, White is For Witching, concerns the disappearance of a teenaged girl from a xenophobic house in Dover.
