La Compagnie des Phares et Balises was founded in 1992 by Jean Labib and T. Celal. All of its production choices have been steered by two guiding principles: curiosity and the desire to bring great films to the screen.

We are not driven by a strict editorial line, but by the pleasure of working with talented filmmakers and tackling topics that truly inspire us. We do our best to steer clear of the pitfalls that tend to bring down production companies, like doing tedious work or falling into a rut.

DOCUMENTARIES
La Compagnie des Phares et Balises has become a key industry player, producing more than 300 documentaries focusing on historical events, social and political issues, sports, literature, art and investigations. And we have retained the marketing rights for this remarkable catalogue.

FEATURE FILMS
In 1999, La Compagnie des Phares et Balises opened a feature film branch called Scarlett Production, which explored a number of themes we considered important, including: Jean Moulin, directed by Yves Boisset and starring Charles Berling; Rainbow Warrior, by Pierre Boutron; and The Ben Barka Affair, by Jean-Pierre Sinapi.

Scarlett Production became an independent company in 2007, and La Compagnie des Phares et Balises began making and producing its own feature films. These works include: The Right Way, which marked the comeback of director Marcel Bluwal, and the prestigious historical TV series The Adventures of Nicolas Le Floch, co-produced with France 2.

NEWS MAGAZINE
We also work in close partnership with the European television channel ARTE on one of its key programs: the weekly news magazine Zoom Europa, which we put together every week working hand-in-hand with crews from ARD and ZDF.

FILMS ON DVD / INTERNATIONAL SALES
Ten years after its creation, La Compagnie des Phares et Balises already has 300+ hours of films in it vaults, including a strong documentary catalogue and a handful of highly esteemed feature films.

In April 2004 our company opened its own DVD and international sales division. Now that it is able to distribute its own films, La Compagnie des Phares et Balises is steadily enhancing its position on the international market as well as its profile with the viewing public via video sales.
